Transcendental Activity With God
Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the ultimate purpose of human life is to reestablish our eternal, loving relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. By studying his instructions, we discover that true spiritual perfection is not a static state of voidness, but an active, blissful life centered around pleasing the Lord. Through pure devotion, the conditioned soul is liberated from material fear and enters into dynamic, transcendental reciprocation with God.
The Perfection of Loving Reciprocation
Śrīla Prabhupāda beautifully describes that the highest realization of the Absolute Truth is entering into loving affairs with the Supreme Lord. When a devotee achieves perfection, they do not lose their individual identity; rather, they engage in an exchange of rasa, or transcendental mellows. This intimate relationship places the devotee in a continually blissful, transcendental position.
- After one attains these (vibhava, anubhava, sattvika and vyabhicari), there is actually an exchange of rasa or transcendental activity with the God. This exchange in loving reciprocation between the lover and the beloved is generally called krsna-bhakti-rasa.
- The real purpose of Krsna's appearance was to manifest how one can take part in loving affairs with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
- The self-expansions are predominators, and the separated expansions are predominated for reciprocation of transcendental bliss with the supreme form of bliss and knowledge.
- A devotee's position is always transcendental because of his intimate relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Rejecting Impersonal Oneness
Many philosophers mistake spiritual liberation to mean merging identically into the existence of the Supreme. Śrīla Prabhupāda firmly refutes this, clarifying that the living entity is an infinitesimal spark and can never be equal to the infinite Lord. Attempting to equate māyā with spirit or claiming equality with God is fundamentally atheistic and leads to further darkness.
- No one can excel God in any capacity, and therefore no one can be equal to or greater than Him, nor can anyone attain the stage of equality with God by any kind of endeavor. Jnana, yoga and bhakti are three recognized processes of spiritual realization.
- Equating maya with spirit, or maya with the Lord, is a sign of atheism.
- The living entity, being eternally a part-and-parcel servitor of the Supreme Lord, can never, by constitution, be an equal enjoyer with the Lord. When he forgets this, however, and tries to be one with Him, his condition is called tamisra.
- For a devotee, that qualitative equality (with God), which is the result of impersonal liberation, is already attained; he does not have to try for it separately.
Consulting the Supersoul
God is not merely a distant creator; He is intimately present within the heart of every living entity as the Paramātmā. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that when a devotee purifies their heart of material contamination and acts with sincerity, they gain the extraordinary privilege of directly consulting with the Supersoul for perfect internal guidance.
- Consultation with the Supersoul seated within everyone's heart is possible only when one is completely free from the contamination of material attachment.
- One can take instructions from the Supersoul directly. This is the duty of the pure devotee: to see the bona fide spiritual master and consult with the Supersoul within the heart.
- One who is sincere and pure gets an opportunity to consult with the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His Paramatma feature sitting within everyone's heart.
- The word anumimamsate means that he (Yamaraja) can decide in consultation with the Supersoul. Anu means - following.
Keeping God in the Center
Material activities inevitably lead to frustration when performed for personal sense gratification. Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that the secret to true happiness and societal harmony is keeping Kṛṣṇa in the center. By dovetailing our work, family life, and social duties with the desires of the Supreme Lord, our ordinary actions are transformed into yoga.
- We are missing the center. The center is God, or Krsna. With God center, if we expand our activities - either country's service or society's service or family's service - you expand, but keep the center, then it will be very nice. It will never overlap.
- It (the third six chapters of Bhagavad-gita) was concluded that all acts should be performed in conjunction with the Supreme Lord, summarized by the words om tat sat, which indicate Visnu, the Supreme Person.
- One who is content and satisfied and who links his activities with the Supreme Personality of Godhead residing in everyone's heart enjoys transcendental happiness without endeavoring for his livelihood.
- His (living entity) constitutional position is to dovetail himself with the desire of the supreme will, but as long as he does not do so, he is sure to drag on in the shackles of material bondage.
The Ultimate Protection and Bliss
When a soul revives its dormant connection with the Lord, all material anxieties vanish. Śrīla Prabhupāda highlights that a Vaiṣṇava is completely fearless, knowing that they are safe in the company of Nārāyaṇa. This divine association grants an eternal, spiritual bliss that vastly exceeds any temporary happiness found in the material world.
- Anyone who is narayana-parayana, he does not fear whether he is going to hell or heaven, because wherever he goes he is with Narayana, he is safe. It doesn't matter whether it is hell or heaven.
- To go from this place to that place will not give eternal life. Eternal life is with Krsna. Therefore Krsna says, "Everything belongs to Me, and I have the superexcellent abode, which is called Goloka Vrndavana."
- When we detach ourselves from His (God's) association, we are always in the midst of want and scarcity, but as soon as we get in touch with Him, our gradual endowment with all bliss begins.
- The transcendental bliss derived from devotional service, cannot be compared to the happiness derived by karmis by elevating themselves to the heavenly planets or by jnanis or yogis, who enjoy oneness with the supreme impersonal Brahman.
Conclusion
Śrīla Prabhupāda masterfully establishes that the highest attainment of the living entity is not to statically merge into the Absolute, but to engage in dynamic, transcendental activity with God. By recognizing our subordinate position, keeping the Supreme Lord firmly in the center of our lives, and taking guidance from the Supersoul within, we naturally step out of material illusion. In this purified state, a Vaiṣṇava experiences the fearless, eternal bliss of direct, loving reciprocation with Kṛṣṇa.
