Prabhupāda Taking Care of the Mission and Disciples
Śrīla Prabhupāda poured his heart into taking care of his disciples, treating each one as a cherished spiritual child entrusted to him by Kṛṣṇa. His supreme act of love was guiding them back to Godhead, meticulously overseeing both their spiritual enlightenment and the practical growth of his global mission.
Guiding with Pure Instructions
Śrīla Prabhupāda's foremost way of taking care of his disciples was by giving them the unadulterated truth. He strictly protected the teachings he received from his spiritual master, ensuring his spiritual children received the highest spiritual enlightenment without compromise.
- I have always been so careful to give you only those things which I have heard from my Guru Maharaja.
- So far I am concerned, I am giving him spiritual enlightenment, and I am taking care of that. So if you will take care of the physical side, that will compromise the situation.
- I can only pray to Krsna to take care of you, otherwise I cannot repay your sincere service in my mission.
Managing the Mission's Growth
Beyond philosophy, Śrīla Prabhupāda took heavy practical burdens to establish his spiritual master's mission. He carefully managed funds, oversaw temple construction, and strictly monitored the standard of Deity worship to protect his disciples' spiritual lives.
- I am coming soon to see that the Vrindaban construction is finished by Janmastami. I will take care of the necessary funds.
- I am very much anxious to know how things are going on, who is taking care of the Deities, whether regular performances are being executed etc. I hesitated to install the Deities when I was in Germany on this account.
- I want that our temples in India supply me with two life-members daily, that's all. Then I shall take care of all other programs, you needn't worry about that. Just get me two life-members a day in all of India, the rest I shall decide.
Raising a Spiritual Family
Relinquishing his own family, Śrīla Prabhupāda accepted all his disciples as his spiritual children. He took personal interest in their well-being, arranging their marriages to maintain purity and encouraging simple living so their attention remained fixed on Kṛṣṇa.
- When I was householder, I was just taking care of one or two children, but after retiring from my household life Krsna has given me chance to raise so many nice children for raising them to Krsna Consciousness.
- Whenever you like, we shall select any brahmacari. But don't have illicit sex. Marriage is allowed. I take personally care of marriage. I want this society must be cleansed. Without being cleansed, nobody can advance in spiritual consciousness.
- More machine means more diversion of attention. I have to take care, more technician, more technologies. Simply if one razor can shave, can make my cheek very clean, where is the necessity?
Selfless Dedication to the World
His compassion knew no bounds, extending to a heavily degraded society that he boldly aimed to elevate. Though he took care of his physical health to serve longer, he was always ready to risk his life for Kṛṣṇa's service and the deliverance of the conditioned souls.
- Actually this Krsna consciousness movement is a process of making this animal society into human civilization. At the present moment especially, all animals. I take them as animals. Therefore I say so boldly. I care for them.
- So as far as possible I am taking care of my health, but Krishna's service must be executed, even at the risk of life. A living entity gets millions of opportunities to get a type of body, but hardly he gets opportunity to serve Krishna.
Conclusion
Śrīla Prabhupāda's life was a masterclass in divine care. By surrendering his own comforts, he embraced the immense responsibility of raising thousands of spiritual children and guiding them back to Godhead. Whether he was intensely managing the practical details of temple construction, arranging marriages to ensure the purity of his followers, or boldly preaching to elevate an animalistic society, his every action was driven by deep love and allegiance to his spiritual master. His ultimate care was giving us the pure, unaltered message of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, leaving an eternal legacy of shelter for all who seek it.
