Never Taking Birth Again - Attaining the Eternal Abode of Kṛṣṇa
The supreme goal of human life is to permanently escape the miserable cycle of repeated birth and death. While modern materialists falsely believe that life ends with the destruction of the physical body, the Vedic scriptures clearly establish that the eternal soul is continuously forced into new bodily forms. By following the divine instructions highlighted by Śrīla Prabhupāda, any sincere soul can break free from this painful cycle, achieve liberation, and return to the eternal spiritual kingdom.
The Misery of the Material World
The entire material universe is designed as a place of correction, completely characterized by temporary happiness and inevitable suffering. Conditioned souls often strive to elevate themselves to higher planetary systems in hopes of finding a permanent, comfortable existence. However, no material realm can provide eternal shelter; from the highest demigod planets down to the lowest hellish worlds, every living entity is subjected to the stringent laws of repeated birth and death.
- From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But one who attains to My (Krsna's) abode, O son of Kunti, never takes birth again.
- Krsna points out that even if we enter into those planets where great demigods reside, we will still be subjected to death. Again, Krsna repeats that upon reaching His planet, one need not take birth again.
- As soon as the body's finished so I am not going to take birth again. So long I am living, let me enjoy life - This is the modern philosophy, hedonism. But that is not the fact.
- When this body is finished, I am not going to take birth again, so as long as I am living, let me enjoy life. - This is the modern philosophy of hedonism, but it does not correspond to the facts.
Understanding Kṛṣṇa's Transcendental Nature
The process of escaping the cycle of rebirth is not based on blind faith, but on a perfect, scientific understanding of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In the Bhagavad-gītā, Lord Kṛṣṇa reveals the exact formula for liberation: one must comprehend that His advent and activities are purely spiritual and completely distinct from material karma. By realizing this transcendental nature, the soul qualifies itself to bypass another material birth and directly enter the spiritual sky.
- As confirmed by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gita (BG 4.9): One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.
- We get information from Bhagavad-gita, by simply doing one thing you can make your life permanent, eternal and never to die again, or never to take birth again. What is that? Krsna says - Simply by understanding about My appearance and My activities.
- In the Bhagavad-gita Krsna says that all His acts, even His appearance and disappearance in and out of the material world, are transcendental, and one who knows this perfectly shall not take his birth again in this material world, but will go back to Godhead.
- Simply by knowing (science of God). "For him the profit is that after giving up this body, he hasn't got to take birth again in this material form." Tyaktva deham punar janma naiti mam eti - He comes directly to Me.
The Assurance of Vaikuṇṭha
True liberation, or mukti, does not mean merely extinguishing material existence or merging into an impersonal void. It means attaining a permanent, constitutional position in the spiritual planets known as Vaikuṇṭha. Once a conditioned soul becomes completely purified of material desires and transfers to this transcendental abode, the Lord guarantees that they will never fall back into the material realm.
- Only by approaching the Lord's abode, the Vaikunthaloka, does one not take birth again in this material world. The grhamedhis, or materialistic persons, however, do not like to use this advantage.
- In this verse (BG 8.15) Krsna proclaims that one who comes to His abode in the Vaikunthas never has to take birth again in the material world. Such a person is called a mahatma.
- Mukti means liberation from material contamination; when liberated, one does not have to take birth again in the material world.
- The word abhavah means "not to take birth again in this material world." A devotee doesn't care whether he is going to be reborn or not. He is simply satisfied with the Lord's service in any condition. That is real mukti.
The Duty in Kṛṣṇa Consciousness
Human life provides the rare intelligence required to end the cycle of saṁsāra, and this intelligence must be actively utilized and shared. Parents and leaders have a heavy spiritual responsibility to guide their dependents out of the darkness of ignorance. By thoroughly training themselves and their children in the science of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, families can ensure that none of their members will ever have to suffer another birth in this miserable world.
- Now you are raising your third child. So more and more you are becoming responsible for these living entities who are your dependents. You must see that they do not take birth again in this material world. That is your duty.
- The Bhagavat also says that no one should become the parent unless he can deliver the child from the clutches of death. So it is your duty to make this baby Krsna conscious so that he may not have to take birth again.
- By taking to Krishna consciousness they can become purified and no longer have to take birth again in this material world where they are the four-fold miseries of the body.
- As soon as one becomes perfect in Krsna conscious activities, he is not going to take birth again in this material world.
Conclusion
The material world is a temporary and distressing place, completely unsuitable for the eternal spirit soul. While ignorant individuals try to extract happiness from the dying body, the intelligent soul seeks a permanent solution to the problems of life. As repeatedly stressed by Śrīla Prabhupāda, this solution is incredibly straightforward: we must simply absorb our consciousness in the transcendental activities of Lord Kṛṣṇa. By wholeheartedly adopting the path of bhakti, we awaken our dormant spiritual identity, completely conquer the stringent laws of nature, and successfully secure our passage to the eternal abode, never taking birth again.
