Merciful Revelations of God's Presentations
Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that the Supreme Lord is not a static or unreachable entity. By studying his instructions, we can understand how God expertly presents Himself as the Deity, as transcendental sound, through His diverse incarnations, and through the flawless manifestation of His divine potencies.
Presenting Himself as the Deity
Because we cannot see spirit with our material eyes, the Lord makes a special concession for our benefit. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the Supreme Lord mercifully presents Himself as the arca-vigraha (Deity) in the temple, accepting our humble service through elements we can physically perceive.
- Even though we are not free from sins, the Lord is kind enough to allow us the facility of seeing Him in His arca-murtis in the temple. The Lord is all-powerful, and therefore He is able to accept our service by presentation of His arca form.
- The devotees worship all these forms (Lord Rama, Baladeva, Sankarsana, Narayana, Maha-Visnu and so forth) according to their liking, and the Lord, out of His affection, presents Himself as arca-vigraha.
- Different devotees have different inclination to offer his service to different features of God. Therefore, He has got innumerable features of the presentation. They are differently named.
- God sometimes presents Himself personally before the devotee out of reciprocation or affection.
Presentation Through Vedic Sound
The most potent way to connect with the Lord in this age is through hearing. Śrīla Prabhupāda stresses that the Supreme Lord presents His profound philosophy through the Vedic literatures like Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and He descends directly as the sound vibration of the holy name.
- A genuine brahmana or Vaisnava therefore depends eternally on the conclusion of the Vedas or Vedic versions presented by the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself.
- Considering the fallen age at the present moment, God is so merciful and kind that He presents Himself as sound, sound vibration, which everyone can produce by his tongue and can hear, and God is present there.
- Although they are lacking the knowledge of Vedanta presented by the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the transcendental form of Srimad-Bhagavatam, the Mayavadis are very proud of their study.
- The activities of Kapila Muni are forecast herein: He will present the philosophy of Sankhya in such a way that by studying His philosophy people will be able to uproot the deep-rooted desire for karma, fruitive activities.
Diverse Incarnations and Roles
To accomplish His cosmic mission and teach by example, the Lord assumes various extraordinary roles. Śrīla Prabhupāda highlights how the Supreme Lord may present Himself as an ideal king, a great sage, or even adopt the mood of a devotee to guide human society on the path of perfection.
- Simply by seeing the form of the Lord as He presents Himself by His own internal potency as Krsna or Rama or Kapila, one can directly see the brahmajyoti, because the brahmajyoti is no more than the effulgence of His bodily luster.
- Rama presented Himself as an ideal king. He did not manifest Himself as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but from symptoms of authentic literature we understand that He is God.
- Although Virabhadra Gosani was the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He presented Himself as a great devotee. And although the Supreme Godhead is transcendental to all Vedic injunctions, He strictly followed the Vedic rituals.
- Those who are actually interested to understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, and who follow in the footsteps of Arjuna should understand that Krsna not only theoretically presented Himself as the Supreme, but actually revealed Himself as the Supreme.
The Transcendental Reality of His Potency
The Lord's presentations are never products of material illusion. Śrīla Prabhupāda clarifies that through His acintya (inconceivable) potencies, the Lord can present Himself anywhere, transforming what appears to be a dream or a physical element into a factual, transcendental reality.
- Acintya-bhedabheda explains how the Lord can present Himself everywhere and anywhere in a form of His energy to accept service from the devotee.
- The Lord must be worshiped in His original form as Krsna. He can also present Himself in any one of His various expanded energies.
- We should not consider that the Lord is one of us. It is by His potency that He presents Himself in His real form before us and displays His pastimes, which are prototypes of those pastimes found in His abode.
- This material world is a product of the mahat-tattva, which is a state of the Lord's dreaming condition in His yoga-nidra mystic slumber in the Causal Ocean, and yet the whole creation appears to be a factual presentation of His creation.
Conclusion
Śrīla Prabhupāda establishes that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is infinitely dynamic and profoundly merciful in how He reveals Himself to the conditioned souls. Because our material senses are blunt and incapable of perceiving the spiritual realm, the Lord descends and presents Himself in ways we can approach. By manifesting as the arca-vigraha (Deity), He accepts our physical service and offerings; by presenting the pristine philosophy of the Vedas and the vibration of His holy names, He purifies our hearing and consciousness. Furthermore, to teach humanity how to live properly, He assumes diverse roles—presenting Himself as an ideal king like Lord Rāmacandra or playing the part of a pure devotee like Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Through all these divine presentations, powered by His inconceivable internal potency, Śrī Kṛṣṇa actively extends the opportunity for all living entities to reawaken their dormant love and return to His eternal, blissful association.
