Keep Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Free From Adulteration and It Will Transform Hearts
Purity is the strength of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the message becomes powerful when Kṛṣṇa's words are presented without alteration, speculation, or the desire to impress others. If the teaching is mixed with personal theory, material motive, or impersonal interpretation, its spiritual effect becomes weakened. But when Kṛṣṇa consciousness is kept pure, it can clear adulterated consciousness and awaken real devotion in the heart.
The Pure Message Must Not Be Altered
The power of preaching depends on presenting Kṛṣṇa's words as they are. Adulteration begins when someone adds personal interpretation, changes the meaning, or tries to improve the message by mixing in something foreign. Śrīla Prabhupāda made this purity the foundation of his work, comparing adulteration to watering down pure milk. The message is already complete; the preacher's duty is to transmit it faithfully.
- Everyone says: "Swamiji, you have done wonderful thing." But I say: "I do not know any magic, jugglery. But wonderful thing is that I have not adulterated." That is wonderful.
- I am certain that I have not adulterated what Krsna has said.
- I cannot manufacture gold, I cannot show any jugglery, but if there is any credit, then the only credit is I don't adulterate. That's all. The pure milk, I don't show my expert service by adding water in it.
- I say, the secret of my wonderful activities is that I have not tried to adulterate it.
Paramparā Protects Bhagavad-gītā From Adulteration
The Lord's message remains potent when received through disciplic succession. Bhagavad-gītā is authoritative, but people may use its popularity to present their own theories in an adulterated way. The protection against this is paramparā, where the teacher delivers what Kṛṣṇa has spoken without misinterpretation. A genuine spiritual master does not introduce himself by changing Kṛṣṇa's message; he represents the Lord by preserving it.
- Bhagavad-gita is a very authoritative book, and it is popular all over the world, sometimes people take advantage of this book and present their own theory in an adulterated way.
- It is described in Bhagavad-gita that the teachings therein should be received by disciplic succession, otherwise there is adulteration.
- This is the qualification of spiritual master, that he delivers things at it is. He does not make any adulteration. Then he is real representative, and he is to be accepted as God Himself. That is the process.
- We must find out a person who is actually bona fide spiritual master by this test, that he's not, I mean to say, adulterating Krsna's message. He's not playing havoc with the message of Krsna in order to introduce himself.
Consciousness Becomes Adulterated by Matter
The soul is originally Kṛṣṇa conscious, but material association covers that pure consciousness. When the mind is colored by the material atmosphere, the living being develops corresponding desires and receives a body shaped by those adulterations. The goal is to clear the covered senses and restore pure awareness of Kṛṣṇa. In this way, the movement works not merely on behavior but on the deep condition of consciousness itself.
- As living spiritual souls, we are all originally Krsna conscious entities, but due to our association with matter from time immemorial, our consciousness is now adulterated by the material atmosphere.
- Our Krsna consciousness movement is to clear that covered sense, or this colored consciousness, or adulterated consciousness. Then everything will be there.
- Real consciousness is Krsna consciousness. When one is situated in Krsna consciousness, he is in his pure life. But if his consciousness is adulterated by some type of material mentality, in the next life he gets a corresponding body.
- If the living entity adulterates his consciousness with the qualities of cats and dogs, in his next life he gets a cat or dog body and enjoys.
Pure Devotion Has No Mixed Motive
Adulteration in devotion means loving God for something other than His pleasure. A desire for material benefit, prestige, liberation, or impersonal oneness mixes the current of devotion with self-interest. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that such adulterated service will not bring the real result. Pure devotion is seen in the gopīs, whose love gives Kṛṣṇa the highest pleasure because it contains no flaw or material calculation.
- This (transcendental loving) service must be without adulteration, that is to say, we must love God without expecting material remuneration. Loving God to become one with Him is also a form of adulteration.
- What is that adulteration? "Now I love God for some material benefit." That is adulteration. "I love God to become one with Him." That is adulteration. This adulteration in devotional service will not help you.
- There is no flaw or adulteration in the love of the gopis; therefore they give Krsna the highest pleasure.
- The product of the hladini-sakti is love of Godhead, which has two divisions - namely, pure love of Godhead and adulterated love of Godhead.
Do Not Mix Kṛṣṇa With Mundane Rubbish
The movement advances when Kṛṣṇa is presented purely, and it loses force when Kṛṣṇa is adulterated. The attempt to make spiritual truth more acceptable by mixing it with mundane ideas actually weakens the message. A little pure thing is better than a large volume of impure things, because purity carries spiritual potency. Keeping Kṛṣṇa consciousness unadulterated is therefore not rigidity but compassion.
- If you place dalda, mixing with ghee some rascal thing, then nobody will accept. Therefore, so many svamis went before me in the Western countries, and they presented adulterated, and there was not a single person became a krsna-bhakta.
- If you push on this movement, unadulterated Krsna, it will go on. It will go on. And as soon as you adulterate Krsna, it will not go on. It will not be effective.
- In India it is said that a little bit of a pure thing is much better than huge volumes of impure, adulterated things.
- We are not adulterating the transcendental message with any mundane rubbish. If we stick to the principles of Lord Krishna, Lord Caitanya and the Goswamis, then surely they will appreciate.
Conclusion
Kṛṣṇa consciousness transforms hearts when it remains pure. Adulteration may appear clever, modern, or attractive, but it dilutes the very power that awakens devotion. The message of Kṛṣṇa, the authority of Bhagavad-gītā, the shelter of paramparā, and the mood of pure bhakti must be preserved without mundane mixture. Śrīla Prabhupāda directs us to keep the milk pure: present Kṛṣṇa as He is, serve without mixed motive, and let unadulterated devotion do its work.
