Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Perfect Source
Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that the conditioned soul, bound by imperfect senses, cannot arrive at the Absolute Truth through independent mental speculation. To acquire factual, flawless understanding, one must receive knowledge from the supreme perfect source, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and His authorized disciplic succession. By submissively accepting this divine revelation, anyone can perfect their life and solve the miseries of material existence.
The Failure of Mental Speculation
Due to our inherent material defects, intellectual endeavors and empirical research always fall short of discovering the truth. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that speculative knowledge is ultimately unhelpful, and one must seek guidance from a superior, infallible authority to understand the deeper purpose of life.
- Our speculative knowledge, intellectual platform, is not helpful. We must receive knowledge from superior source, perfect source. That knowledge is perfect.
- Hearing from the perfect source of the Supreme Being, one can get answers to solve the miseries of life, which begins with self-realization.
- You have to take knowledge from the perfect source. Then you can understand. This is Vedic injunction. If you want to know perfectly everything, then you must go to the proper teacher. Then you will learn.
Accepting Vedic Evidence
In the Vedic tradition, absolute truth is acquired through śabda-pramāṇa, or the process of receiving aural reception from authoritative scriptures. Śrīla Prabhupāda uses the example of the exact number of aquatic species to illustrate how one can effortlessly possess perfect knowledge simply by accepting the statements of the Vedas and great ācāryas.
- Sabda-pramana means as soon as there is evidence in the Vedic literature, "This is this," you have to accept. Then your knowledge is perfect because you are accepting things from the perfect source.
- We say there are 900,000 forms of life within the water. We have not gone within the water; neither as biologist we have studied. We have taken the perfect information from the perfect source. We say 900,000. This is called Vedic knowledge.
- The sastras are accepted by the acaryas, the great teachers. And we get knowledge from the sastra. I may be imperfect, but I get knowledge from the perfect source. That is perfect knowledge.
Hearing from Śrī Kṛṣṇa and the Paramparā
The supreme perfect source of all knowledge is God Himself. Śrīla Prabhupāda compares this process to a child learning from its mother; though the child is ignorant, by accepting the mother's authority, their knowledge becomes perfect. Similarly, hearing from Śrī Kṛṣṇa through the paramparā guarantees flawless understanding.
- Faith may be wrong, belief may be wrong. That perfect knowledge can be received from the perfect source. So God is perfect. God is perfect. And one who follows the path of God, he is also perfect.
- The child is imperfect, but when he gets the knowledge from the perfect source, mother, then it is perfect. Similarly, we, we never say that we are perfect. If you are perfect, then why you are learning? We are trying to become perfect.
- If we receive information from the perfect source, Krsna, and if we repeat that information, then what we are speaking can also be accepted as perfect and authoritative.
Preaching the Perfect Knowledge
The duty of a pure devotee is not to manufacture new philosophies but to distribute the exact message received from the Supreme Lord. Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that by faithfully repeating the instructions of the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement presents perfect, authoritative knowledge to the entire world.
- Our process is to receive the perfect knowledge from the perfect source and distribute it. We don't manufacture knowledge.
- The messages of Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam should be preached all over the world very loudly. That is the duty of a pure devotee who has actually heard about them from the perfect sources.
- One who has perfectly heard from the perfect source becomes convinced about the all-pervading Personality of Godhead and thus becomes enthusiastic in glorifying the Lord.
Conclusion
Śrīla Prabhupāda establishes that human beings, burdened by their four intrinsic defects, cannot independently discover the ultimate truth of existence. The only viable method for gaining real knowledge is to abandon mundane speculation and accept the descending process of śabda-pramāṇa. By hearing from the Vedas and the bona fide ācāryas, one receives information that is completely untinged by material illusion. The supreme perfect source is Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself, and the knowledge He imparts through the paramparā allows even an imperfect individual to become perfectly situated. Ultimately, it is the duty of those who have received this perfect knowledge to repeat it without alteration, distributing the light of Kṛṣṇa consciousness to free human society from its suffering and guide all souls back home, back to Godhead.
