God Lives - Everywhere as the Supersoul
Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that human life is specifically meant for understanding the science of God. While many people possess only vague or speculative ideas about the Absolute Truth, the Vedic literatures provide exact, authorized information. Through the disciplic succession, a sincere seeker can learn exactly who God is, what His name is, what He does, and precisely where He lives.
The Supreme Abode of the Lord
The Supreme Personality of Godhead is not a localized, mundane being, nor is He an impersonal void. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the Lord has a specific, eternal residence in the spiritual sky, and the ultimate goal of life is to return to that supreme destination.
- Every place, every space and everything belongs to Visnu, but where He personally lives is tad dhama paramam, His supreme abode. One has to make one's destination the supreme abode of the Lord.
- The Lord lives in the spiritual world in His original personality, and a devotee who follows the instructions of the Lord approaches Him - mam eti.
- Goloka eva nivasaty akhilatma-bhutah: He is living in Goloka, but still He is present all over the creation. He is the Supersoul of everything, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and He has innumerable transcendental qualities.
- We cannot immediately make an experiment and go there. That is not possible. But we have so many descriptions of the supreme planet in Vedic literature.
Living Within the Heart
Although the Lord never leaves His eternal abode in the spiritual sky, He possesses the inconceivable power to exist everywhere simultaneously. Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that the Lord expands as the Paramātmā (Supersoul) to live directly within the heart of every single living entity.
- God is living within the core of the heart, and the living entity, he is also living within this core of heart. They are living just like two birds sitting on the branch of one tree. These are the Vedic statement.
- As a friend, He is living with the soul as Supersoul. That is stated in the Vedas, that two birds are sitting on the same tree.
- The word sarva-bhuta-nivasaya further clarifies how Lord Visnu lives in everyone's heart and acts as the direct witness of all the activities of the conditioned soul.
- As Paramatma, Supersoul, the Lord is living in everyone's heart, and from Him only does one's power of remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness follow. One person can sharply remember past activities by the grace of the Lord while others cannot.
Uncontaminated by Material Conditions
Because the Lord lives everywhere, including within the bodies of lower species and in impoverished places, some might incorrectly assume He becomes contaminated. Śrīla Prabhupāda rigorously defeats this mundane logic, explaining that the Lord's supreme purity is never affected by His surroundings.
- Because the Supreme Lord lives everywhere, He is known as Vasudeva. Although He lives everywhere within the material world, He is not contaminated by the modes of nature. The Lord is therefore described in Isopanisad as apapa-viddham.
- He lives everywhere - in the houses of the poor and those of the rich - but in all circumstances He remains Narayana; to think that He becomes either poor or rich is a material calculation.
- If hogs and dogs in their material bodies live in filthy places, one should not think that the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His Paramatma feature also lives in a filthy place.
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead is full in all opulences. He can agree to live with a poor soul or even with an animal, but this does not make Him poor.
Living Among the Pure Devotees
While the Lord technically exists everywhere, He takes special pleasure in manifesting His presence where He is actively glorified. Śrīla Prabhupāda notes that the true, awakened residence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is amidst the congregation of His unalloyed devotees.
- The Lord says, that He lives neither in Vaikuntha nor in the heart of a yogi, but He lives where His pure devotees are always chanting and glorifying Him.
- The Supersoul in all living entities is the same Supreme Personality of Godhead. By His omnipotency, He can live anywhere, and He can create His Vaikuntha situation everywhere. That is His inconceivable potency.
- He can be known only by one who has His mercy. The Yadavas were all exceptionally learned and experienced, but in spite of knowing the Lord as the one who lives in everyone's heart, they could not understand that He is the Personality of Godhead.
- We know who is God. Therefore this business is possible by us, not by others. We know what is God. We have no vague idea. We know who is God, where does He live, what does He do, His name, address, His father's name - everything we know.
Conclusion
A human being is meant to utilize their intelligence to solve the mystery of their existence, which inherently involves understanding the position of the Supreme Controller. Śrīla Prabhupāda systematically establishes that the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Kṛṣṇa, is not a mythological concept; He is the absolute reality with a specific eternal address in Goloka Vṛndāvana. Yet, out of His boundless causeless mercy, He refuses to leave the conditioned souls alone. He expands as the Paramātmā, living intimately within the heart of every single entity—from Brahmā down to the ant—acting as the ultimate witnessing friend. Although He lives everywhere and pervades all material universes, He remains eternally uncontaminated. For those sincere souls who take up the path of bhakti-yoga, the Lord reveals His ultimate secret: He lives most joyfully wherever His pure devotees gather to chant His holy names. By constantly hearing these descriptions from the authorized Vedic literatures, one gradually qualifies to leave this temporary world and live eternally with the Lord in His supreme abode.
