God Is The Father - The Supreme Seed-Giver of All Living Entities
Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that the most fundamental and universally accessible understanding of God is as the supreme father. Just as a family functions harmoniously under the shelter and provision of a loving father, the entire cosmic creation is designed to operate peacefully under the supreme proprietorship of the Personality of Godhead. Recognizing this eternal relationship is the essence of true religion.
The Supreme Seed-Giving Father
The Bhagavad-gītā clarifies the relationship between God, nature, and the living beings. Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that while material nature (prakṛti) acts as the mother, the Supreme Lord is the seed-giving father (ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā) of all species of life, without exception.
- The plain truth is that the Supreme Godhead the Father, The Nature material is the mother and all living entities are so many children of Almighty Father Godhead, and the mother nature.
- From prakrti, or material nature, come so many varieties of living entities, including aquatics, plants, trees, insects, birds, animals, human beings and demigods. prakrti is the mother, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the father.
- The Lord claims to be the father of all species of life. He claims that all living beings - regardless of what they are - are part and parcel of Him. Consequently, the Bhagavad-gita is meant for all of them.
- When Krsna speaks, we must understand that whatever He says is not limited but is universally true. He claims to be the father of all living entities - even the animals, the aquatics, the trees, plants, worms, birds and bees are all claimed to be His sons.
The Foundation of Universal Brotherhood
Modern society frequently attempts to establish peace through organizations like the United Nations. Śrīla Prabhupāda points out the logical flaw in these attempts: one cannot practically establish universal brotherhood without first recognizing the universal father.
- We talk all nonsense of universal brotherhood and United Nations - all nonsense. Either you acknowledge the Father, or else you have no idea of how to realize brotherhood or humanity. Therefore, they are talking for years and years. They are the same fools.
- Religion means to accept God. So if you are Muslim, I am Hindu, if I accept God, if You accept God, then where is fight? If we accept that God is the proprietor, God is the father, then where is the question of fight?
- Now our socialist idea is: God is the father of all living beings. And whatever there is on the surface of the globe, on the sea, on the sky, everything belongs to God.
- We have got right to enjoy the property of father, God, without infringing others' right. Just like in family, we live, so many brothers. So whatever father, mother gives us to eat we eat. We don't encroach upon others' plate. That is not civilized family.
The Provider and Protector
As the supreme father, Bhagavān perfectly provides for all His children. However, Śrīla Prabhupāda notes that when the children become rebellious and forgetful of Him, material nature strictly curtails the supply of necessities to teach them a lesson.
- The living entities in different forms are sons of the Lord, and therefore the father, the Supreme Lord, supplies them food according to their different bodies.
- Actually one suffers for want of food when material nature, under the order of the father, refuses to supply him food. It is the living entity's position that determines whether food will be supplied or not.
- We do not care for our Father; however, nature is nonetheless working under His direction. If we do not care for Him, nature will reduce her supply, for nature will not allow demons to flourish.
- Real love begins when you try to give God. Everyone is trying to take from God, "Oh father, give us our daily bread." This is not pure devotee. This is good because he has approached God, but this is not devotion.
The Loving Father and the Rebellious Son
The conditioned soul's presence in the material world is entirely due to their desire to leave the father's shelter and enjoy independently. Śrīla Prabhupāda concludes that the only cure for this suffering is to return to our natural, obedient relationship with God.
- We are sons of God, part and parcels of God, and God means almighty. So we have got almighty father, and leaving His place, I have come to this material world to enjoy independently. That is criminality. And we are suffering.
- Consequently we are suffering in this material world, and because we are suffering we are thinking of becoming one with our father.
- What is the secrecy and what is the mystical? We don't teach that you press your nose, you put your head, you go up and down. Nothing required. Simply to know that "God is my father; I am His eternal son. My duty is to love Him," that's all.
- The intelligent man, abandons all engagements in the name of religion and takes shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and thus receives absolute protection from the Almighty Father.
Conclusion
A peaceful society cannot be built upon the shifting sands of material designations and political treaties. Śrīla Prabhupāda unequivocally states that true unity is only possible when humanity universally accepts the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the original, seed-giving father of all living entities. Because every soul—whether in a human, animal, or plant body—is a spiritual child of God, everyone has an equal right to respectfully utilize the Father's property. The miseries of the material world, including famine and conflict, are simply the strict reactions of mother nature attempting to rectify her rebellious children. By abandoning the criminal desire for independent enjoyment and re-establishing our loving service to Bhagavān, the conditioned soul is immediately relieved of all anxieties, returning to the absolute protection and joyful shelter of the supreme father.
