God Is Infallible - The Supreme Acyuta
Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is uniquely characterized by His infallible nature. Known in the Vedic literature as Acyuta, the Lord never falls under the control of the illusory material energy, remaining eternally perfect in His knowledge, form, and activities.
The Meaning of Acyuta
The name Acyuta specifically means "He who never falls down." Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that while ordinary living entities like Arjuna are prone to fall into delusion, the Supreme Lord's position and knowledge are always infallible.
- God is infallible, and in Bhagavad-gita He is addressed as Acyuta, which means, "He who never falls down." This is indicated because in Bhagavad-gita Arjuna had fallen into delusion but Krsna had not.
- Although You engage Your energy in matter, You are always situated in Your original form and never fall from that position, for Your knowledge is infallible and always suitable to any situation. You are never bewildered by illusion.
- He (God) is ever infallible, whereas the living entities are prone to fall under the illusory energy.
- Acyuta means infallible. God cannot be entrapped by maya. The Mayavadi philosopher says that "I am God. Now I am under illusion of maya. I have forgotten myself, that I am God, and by meditation I shall become God." This is all nonsense.
The Infallible Incarnations
When the Lord appears in the material world, He does not assume a material body. Śrīla Prabhupāda clarifies that the Supreme Lord's descents and expansions are completely transcendental, allowing Him to remain infallible in any situation.
- Because the Supreme Personality of Godhead is all-spiritual, He can descend from the spiritual sky without changing His body, and thus He is known as acyuta, or infallible.
- The Lord, being infallible, is not forced by material nature to take birth in this material world. He appears in order to reestablish the perfect order of religious principles and to vanquish the demoniac influence in human society.
- As confirmed in the Brahma-samhita, all these forms of the Supreme Personality of Godhead (Vasudeva, Pradyumna, Aniruddha and Sankarsana) are advaita, nondifferent, and they are also acyuta, infallible; they do not fall down like the conditioned souls.
- The ordinary living entity is prone to falling into the clutches of maya, but the Supreme Lord in His different incarnations and forms is acyuta, infallible. Therefore His body is different from the material body possessed by the conditioned soul.
The Supreme Unchanging Witness
Despite the constant transformations of the material creation, the Supreme Lord remains entirely unaffected. Śrīla Prabhupāda describes how the Lord maintains His infallible status as the supreme, changeless observer of all cosmic events.
- Again, when the cosmic manifestation is annihilated, it rests in Him. Nonetheless, He is infallibly the supreme observer. Under any circumstances, the Supreme Lord is changeless. He is simply a witness and is aloof from all creation and annihilation.
- O brahmanas, do not think this to be especially wonderful in the activities of the mysterious and infallible Personality of Godhead. By His own transcendental energy, He maintains and annihilates all material things, although He Himself is unborn.
- We often hear it said that God is infallible, and in Bhagavad-gita Krsna states: When you see that there is nothing beyond these modes of nature in all activities and that the Supreme Lord is transcendental to all these modes, then you can know My spiritual nature.
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead, the supreme controller, who is infallible and indefatigable, is present in different forms of life, from the inert living beings (sthavara), such as the plants, to Brahma, the foremost created living being.
Infallible Knowledge and Instructions
Because the Lord is infallible, everything emanating from Him is perfect. Śrīla Prabhupāda points out that the Vedic knowledge and the direct instructions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are the only flawless guides for human society.
- Vedic knowledge is infallible because it comes down through the perfect disciplic succession of spiritual masters, beginning with the Lord Himself. Since He spoke the first word of Vedic knowledge, the source of this knowledge is transcendental.
- It is instructed in the sastras that one should follow the great authority and the infallible Lord without any personal motive and manufactured ideology.
- The injunctions or directions of the Lord are infallible, and their benefits are fully assured. According to His directions, which are explained in this verse (SB 7.7.30-31), the perfect form of religion is bhakti-yoga.
Conclusion
To understand the Absolute Truth is to recognize the Lord as Acyuta, the infallible Supreme Person. Śrīla Prabhupāda clarifies that because God never falls under the jurisdiction of material illusion, His knowledge, forms, and pastimes remain eternally perfect. By faithfully accepting the infallible instructions of the Lord and abandoning mental speculation, the conditioned soul can transcend the fallible material world and attain eternal, infallible spiritual life.
