God Is Full of All Opulences - The Supreme Personality
Śrīla Prabhupāda consistently teaches that the Absolute Truth is not an impersonal void but the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who possesses an eternal, spiritual form completely full of all opulences. This absolute completeness is the very definition of Bhagavān.
The Definition of Full Opulence
According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, the word Bhagavān means the supreme possessor of all potencies. He possesses wealth, strength, beauty, fame, knowledge, and renunciation in unlimited quantities, perfectly defeating all impersonal philosophies.
- Actually, the Supreme Lord has an eternal personal form full of all opulence. The Mayavadi philosophers try to interpret the Absolute Truth as being without potency.
- The word bhaga means "opulence," and van means "one who possesses." All the opulences of the creation are present in Bhagavan.
- In defining the Supreme Personality of Godhead, we say that He is full in all six opulences - wealth, fame, strength, influence, beauty and renunciation.
- Krsna is full of all opulence. He possesses in totality wealth, strength, beauty, fame, knowledge and renunciation. He possesses everything in unlimited quantity. If we return to our original father, we can enjoy ourselves with Him unlimitedly.
The Source and Controller of All
Because the Lord is the origin of everything, Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that no one can equal Him. He is the supreme controller of material nature and inexhaustible time, easily fulfilling all the desires of the living entities.
- He (God) is the source of everyone's opulence, and no one can equal Him in opulence. Being full of all opulences, namely wealth, fame, strength, beauty, knowledge and renunciation, certainly He is the Supreme Person.
- He (Krsna) is the controller of this material nature and of all living entities. He is also the controller of inexhaustible time, and He is full of all opulences and all potencies.
- The Lord always remains in Goloka, the topmost planet in the spiritual world. At the same time, He is all-pervading. This paradox is only possible for the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is full of all opulences.
- Bhakti should be animitta, without motive. Actually Krsna can fulfill all of our wishes without difficulty because He is almighty and full of all opulences.
The Supreme Form and Incarnations
Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that whether in His original eternal form of sac-cid-ananda-vigraha or as various incarnations like Nityānanda Rāma or Viṣṇu, the Lord continuously exhibits His six opulences in full.
- In the Vedic literature we find that His whole embodiment is spiritual. He has His eternal form called sac-cid-ananda-vigraha. He is full of all opulence.
- The Lord's form as Visnu is decorated in all opulence; therefore Lord Siva is trying to see that most opulent form of Narayana, or Visnu.
- These six potencies (opulence, strength, fame, beauty, knowledge and renunciation) are fully exhibited by Sri Rama and Sri Krsna when They descend before human beings.
- I surrender unto the lotus feet of Sri Nityananda Rama, who is known as Sankarsana in the midst of the catur-vyuha. He possesses full opulences and resides in Vaikunthaloka, far beyond the material creation - CC Adi 1.8.
The Lord's Supreme Renunciation and Compassion
Despite possessing all the wealth of creation, Śrīla Prabhupāda points out that the Lord is simultaneously the master of perfect renunciation. This allows Him to compassionately reside with any soul, rich or poor, to drive away their ignorance.
- Bhagavan Sri Krsna is full of all opulence as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but at the same time He is full of all renunciation.
- Krsna is full of all opulences, and renunciation is one of them. There are many instances of such renunciation, for Krsna is also the master of renunciation.
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead is full in all opulences. He can agree to live with a poor soul or even with an animal, but this does not make Him poor.
- Narayana, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is full of all opulences, is predominant within the core of your heart because of your being a pure devotee. He always drives away all the darkness of ignorance, as the sun drives away the darkness of the universe.
Conclusion
To understand the Absolute Truth, one must accept the teachings of Śrīla Prabhupāda regarding the limitless potencies of Bhagavān. Because the Supreme Lord is completely full of all opulences, He is the supreme controller, the ultimate renouncer, and the unparalleled reservoir of spiritual and material energies.
