The Real Thing Means Loving Kṛṣṇa
In a world driven by artificial desires and temporary solutions, finding something of eternal value requires a shift in consciousness. When analyzing the nature of material existence, it becomes clear through the teachings of Śrīla Prabhupāda that the ultimate reality is spiritual. By rejecting superficial imitations and embracing pure devotion, we can directly connect with the Supreme Lord.
Rejecting the False Material Show
The material realm operates by presenting shadows of spiritual reality to attract the conditioned soul. It is frequently pointed out by Śrīla Prabhupāda that bodily beauty and worldly happiness are fleeting illusions. Once we understand that we are spirit souls, we naturally stop seeking satisfaction in the temporary combinations of matter.
- A woman is very beautiful, but as soon as the spirit soul is gone, if somebody says that, "You can take this woman at your house," nobody will like. Nobody will like, because the real thing is gone. It is false beauty.
- As in a cinema we simply see a show or facsimile of the real thing, in Srimad-Bhagavatam it is said that this material world is but a combination of matter modeled after the reality, just as a mannequin of a girl in a store window is modeled after a girl.
- Real thing is mistaken. He is accepting this body as self, or he is thinking that, "The bodily comforts will make me happy." But that cannot be, because the body is made of matter, and we are spirit soul.
- The whole world is full of cheaters and cheated. Because they want to be cheated, there are so many cheaters. They don't want real thing. Here is the real thing: Bhagavad-gita, the Supreme Personality of Godhead speaking personally about Himself.
The Process of Real Meditation
Many people are attracted to mystic practices and gymnastic yoga postures, hoping to find inner peace. However, it is explicitly taught by Śrīla Prabhupāda that true meditation means fixing the mind on the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In this current age, the most effective and genuine meditative process is the chanting of the mahā-mantra.
- By this astanga-yoga system, by sitting posture, by controlling the breathing, by modes of different posture of seeing, so many things there are. The real thing is to control the mind and concentrate it on the form of Visnu.
- If somebody is imitating, that is simply imitation. So imitation has no value. The real thing is this meditation: you chant and hear. This meditation. Meditation means to absorb your mind in the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
- The real thing is this meditation: you chant and hear. This meditation. Meditation means to absorb your mind in the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is meditation, real meditation.
- Sankirtana-yajna. This yajna will help you. Real thing is the heart, the mind. If this yajna, sankirtana-yajna, cleanses your mind and heart, then you come to the platform of knowledge. Then automatically other things become effective.
Love and Devotion as the Ultimate Value
God is entirely self-sufficient and does not require elaborate offerings or immense material wealth from His devotees. The actual standard of pure worship, as established by Śrīla Prabhupāda, is the presence of sincere love and devotion. It is this unalloyed affection that Kṛṣṇa recognizes and accepts above all else.
- Bhakti is main thing, not your palatable dish. Visnu is quite competent to prepare thousand times better palatable dishes than you can offer. But the real thing is bhakti.
- Krsna is not hankering after your patram puspam. He has created patram puspam phalam toyam, He can enjoy. Why He should ask from you? But the real thing is bhaktya.
- Krsna says, patram puspam phalam toyam yo me. The real thing is whether you are lover and devotee. Then Krsna will accept anything you offer. It is not you have to cook very sumptuously, very rich food, then Krsna you'll offer. Krsna is not after your food.
- Yo me bhaktya prayacchati. The real thing is love. Patram puspam is no value. Or luci puri is no value. The real value is love.
The Duty to Present the Real Thing
A spiritual teacher must distribute transcendental knowledge exactly as it is received through the disciplic succession. Throughout his global mission, Śrīla Prabhupāda refused to adopt cheating methods or dilute the philosophy simply to attract followers. It is the strict duty of a devotee to present the absolute truth, regardless of how the general public reacts to it.
- As we are servant of Krsna, it is our duty to present the real thing. Now you accept, not accept. That is not my business.
- Because I want to deliver the real thing, therefore in my feeble health I am prepared to go. If one man can understand, that I want to see. I am traveling all over the world to see that at least one man may understand.
- Krsna consciousness movement is trying little bit. Success or no success does not matter. As we are servant of Krsna, it is our duty to present the real thing. Now you accept, not accept. That is not my business.
- People are after these books, they are hankering for them. We don't need to take cheating method. I never had to use any cheating method when I first began. I simply presented the real thing.
Conclusion
The journey to spiritual perfection requires us to abandon the temporary imitations offered by material existence. Through his pure example, Śrīla Prabhupāda demonstrated that the only reality worth pursuing is a loving relationship with the Supreme Lord. By sincerely practicing bhakti-yoga and chanting the holy names, we connect with the eternal and secure the highest perfection of life.
