Acknowledging Kṛṣṇa as the Real Proprietor
Humanity is deeply fractured by endless disputes over land, wealth, and political dominance, all stemming from a singular, massive illusion: the belief that we are the owners of this world. This fundamental error generates immense suffering and societal chaos. Delivering the absolute truth directly from the Vedas, Śrīla Prabhupāda reveals that the Supreme Lord is the sole creator and factual owner of everything that exists. Only by relinquishing our false claims and recognizing His supreme proprietorship can we achieve genuine peace and prosperity.
The False Conception of Ownership
Nations draw imaginary borders across the earth, and individuals fiercely guard their accumulated wealth, convinced that they are the absolute masters of their domains. However, humanity cannot produce a single blade of grass or a drop of water independently; everything is supplied by the grace of nature. Cutting through this arrogant mindset, Śrīla Prabhupāda points out that claiming ownership over God's property is the hallmark of a miscreant. Fighting over who owns which country is a completely false and destructive conception of life.
- If we fight amongst ourselves that, "I am proprietor of India; you are proprietor of America; you are proprietor of Germany," this is false conception of life. Real proprietor is Krsna.
- One has to learn this, that everything belongs to Krsna. Isavasyam idam sarvam. This is Vedic instruction. We have created trouble because we have forgotten the real proprietor.
- They cannot produce anything - wood, iron, earth, anything whatever. So real proprietor is God. Real proprietor is God, everything. Isavasyam idam sarvam. This is God consciousness.
- You don't accept the real proprietor, and you are thinking, "I am the proprietor." That is your fault. That is miscreant.
The Supreme Enjoyer and Friend
Because people forget their subordinate position, they attempt to enjoy the fruits of their labor independently, which only leads to frustration. The Bhagavad-gītā clearly outlines the peace formula: recognizing the Lord as the ultimate beneficiary of all activities. Highlighting this essential wisdom, Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that when a person gives everything to Kṛṣṇa, acknowledging Him as the true friend and owner, they instantly experience relief. Acknowledging the supreme enjoyer is the key to personal and global tranquility.
- As stated in Bhagavad-gita (BG 5.29), bhoktaram yajna-tapasam sarva-loka-mahesvaram: the real proprietor of all wealth is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is the actual enjoyer.
- If one wants to enjoy real peace and prosperity, he should give everything to Krsna, who is the real enjoyer, real friend and real proprietor.
- It is confirmed in the Fifth Chapter (5.29) that when one understands that Krsna is the proprietor of all universal manifestations, that He is the real friend of all living entities, then only can one have real peace.
- That point is missing. Real enjoyer or proprietor is Krsna. Bhoktaram yajna-tapasam sarva-loka-mahesvaram. He's the proprietor.
Occupiers in the Material World
The illusion of ownership extends even to the physical body, which the soul claims as its own. In reality, the body is a machine provided by material nature, and the soul is merely a passenger allowed to reside within it for a temporary period. Using a highly relatable analogy, Śrīla Prabhupāda compares the soul to a tenant living in a rented house, while the Supersoul is the actual landlord. The senses we use every day belong strictly to the Lord, and we can only utilize them by His sanction.
- Just like in a house, rented house, you are living. If the proprietor of the house, landlord, eject you, you cannot live there. You cannot use it. Similarly, we can use this body as long as the real proprietor of the body, Hrsikesa, allows me to stay here.
- Just like of a house there are two persons: one is the proprietor of the house; another, tenant, is the occupier. So we are simply occupiers. Real proprietor is Krsna.
- The Hrsikesa name is there in the Bhagavad-gita. Hrsikesa means hrsikanam adhisvaram. So practically, the senses which you are using, the real proprietor is Aniruddha, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
- You are not proprietor. Dehe sarvasya bharata. He is... the individual soul is in every body, and the Supersoul, Supersoul is the real proprietor.
Reestablishing the Divine Account
Whether a society operates under capitalism or communism, the underlying struggle remains the same because both systems fail to recognize the ultimate owner. True spiritual awakening requires a complete paradigm shift, where we stop working for our own sense gratification and begin working for the satisfaction of the Lord. Guiding us toward perfection, Śrīla Prabhupāda instructs that we must change our existential account. We are granted facilities in this world not to enjoy them independently, but to use them perfectly in the service of Kṛṣṇa.
- Krsna consciousness movement means that we have to change the account, not for sense gratification. Because real proprietor is Krsna. When I think, "I am proprietor, I am enjoyer," that is illusion.
- Real proprietor is God. You are simply placed in that condition, that's all. That is your dependence on the condition offered by God.
- The real proprietor is Krsna. You are not proprietor. You have been given the facility to use it for... use it not for your sense gratification, but for the satisfaction of the Lord. Then your life is perfect.
- This struggle, either the worker become proprietor or the capitalist become proprietor, it is the same thing. Real proprietor is Krsna. Bhoktaham. Bhoktaram yajna-tapasam. That we do not know.
Conclusion
The foundation of all material distress is the stubborn refusal to acknowledge God's absolute ownership over the universe and our own bodies. By falsely identifying as masters and enjoyers, humanity plunges itself into unnecessary struggles and anxieties. As beautifully elucidated by Śrīla Prabhupāda, when we finally relinquish our false claims and dedicate everything to the service of Kṛṣṇa, the true proprietor, we instantly access eternal peace and spiritual perfection.
