Why Material Plans Will Fail
Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that without the sanction of the Supreme Lord, every endeavor in this material world is destined for frustration. By analyzing his teachings, we learn that whether one is pursuing scientific advancement, political peace, or artificial spiritual perfection, leaving Kṛṣṇa out of the center guarantees that all such plans will ultimately fail.
The Ultimate Disposer of All Plans
People constantly make elaborate plans for material happiness, forgetting that the laws of nature ultimately control everything. Śrīla Prabhupāda clarifies that without the sanction of the supreme authority, all our independent schemes, industrial advancements, and political arrangements will inevitably fail.
- We may make very great plans, but unless they are sanctioned by the supreme authority, they will fail.
- Everyone in this material world, he does not know what is the aim of life. Unnecessarily he is making plan - this plan, that plan, this plan, that plan - and all plan is being frustrated by the laws of nature. Every plan will fail.
- Men with poor fund of knowledge do not know, in the material world however you try to arrange things very right, it will always fail. But in the spiritual world the spiritual varieties displayed by Krishna along with his associates gives eternal pleasure.
- The plan should be made that everyone should be God conscious. Then every plan will be successful. Otherwise all, everything will fail.
The Limits of Experimental Knowledge
The Supreme Personality of Godhead is known as Adhokṣaja, meaning He is beyond the reach of the material senses. Śrīla Prabhupāda warns that any attempt to understand the absolute truth through the inductive method, experimental science, or mundane space exploration will fail due to our inherent limitations.
- A meaningful word in this verse (SB 4.3.23) is adhoksaja, for it indicates that the activities of our material senses will fail to realize the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
- Any attempt to arrive at this (inconceivable) information through experimental knowledge will fail. The knowledge simply has to be accepted - CC Intro.
- A tethered cow goes as far as the rope; similarly, one who uses the inductive method to search for ultimate knowledge will fail.
- In my Easy Journey to Other Planet, I have written that "This moon-going attempt is childish and waste of time." And still we are challenging that "Mars-going, so-called, it will also fail." Write it: It will fail. Not that process.
The Failure of Artificial Yoga
In the modern age, many people attempt to achieve spiritual perfection through mechanical yoga postures or mental speculation. However, Śrīla Prabhupāda asserts that trying to artificially control the senses without engaging them in devotional service to Kṛṣṇa will always fail.
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, "In this age there is no other alternative, there is no other alternative." The so-called meditation, yoga or karma, jnana, mental speculation - everything will fail.
- There is no question of stopping the activities of the senses. That will fail. The yoga system, Patanjali yoga system, is artificially stopping the activities of the senses.
- When you employ your senses in the service of the proprietor of the senses, that is called bhakti. That is called bhakti. So that is real yoga, bhakti-yoga. Otherwise artificially if you try, one or two may be successful but mostly they will fail.
- In other words, if one practices yoga mysticism and does not accept a bona fide spiritual master, he will surely fail. He will simply waste his valuable time.
The Importance of Routine Devotional Work
For a practicing devotee, strict adherence to the basic, routine spiritual program is the absolute key to success. Śrīla Prabhupāda promises that if we maintain our regular Kṛṣṇa conscious duties, māyā will fail to attract us; but if we neglect them, all our other spiritual attempts will fail.
- If this routine work is always done nicely and never neglected, then our all success is guaranteed in whatever we do. But if this our regular KC program is allowed to slacken, then everything else we try will fail. That is the simple formula for success.
- Business is secondary to our basic routine work. If the routine Krishna Consciousness program is neglected for other things, then everything else will fail.
- If we stick to the principle of Krsna consciousness, maya will not be able to react upon us. Eventually maya will fail to attract you. She will fail. You will not fail.
- Krsna is just like sunlight, and maya is just like darkness. So what darkness will do in sunlight? You keep yourself in sunlight, darkness will fail to act upon you. This is the whole philosophy of Krsna consciousness.
Conclusion
Śrīla Prabhupāda delivers a stark but liberating truth: every godless endeavor, whether it is a grand political summit, an industrial empire, or an artificial spiritual practice, is ultimately doomed to fail. True success is only found when we acknowledge our dependence on the Supreme Lord and place Him at the center of all our activities. By abandoning our independent, material plans and strictly following the routine process of pure devotional service, we guarantee our victory over the illusions of māyā and achieve the ultimate perfection of life.
