Approaching Authorities for Perfect Knowledge
In every field of material endeavor, we naturally accept the guidance of experts. We approach a doctor for a disease, an engineer to build a bridge, and a lawyer for legal disputes. Yet, when it comes to the ultimate questions of life—who we are, who God is, and what the purpose of the universe is—people often insist on relying on their own imperfect minds. Śrīla Prabhupāda repeatedly emphasizes that to gain true spiritual enlightenment, we must abandon our speculative habits and embrace the Vedic system of approaching authorities.
Limitation of Mental Speculation
The material senses are blunt, limited, and prone to illusion. Therefore, attempting to measure the infinite Supreme Lord with a finite brain is a futile endeavor. Śrīla Prabhupāda brilliantly illustrates this limitation by explaining that a child cannot discover the identity of his father through a laboratory experiment. He must simply accept the authority of his mother.
