In the modern era, the spiritual marketplace is flooded with newly invented methods of meditation, silent voids, and bodily gymnastics, all promising liberation. However, the absolute science of self-realization cannot be altered or concocted by the human mind. Establishing the highest authorized standard, Śrīla Prabhupāda confirms that the only factual and perfect method to attain the Supreme is pure devotional service. By completely surrendering to God and focusing the mind on His divine form, the soul easily achieves ultimate perfection.
The Inadequacy of Speculation
Many philosophers and ascetics attempt to understand the Absolute Truth through their own intellectual power or physical austerities, proudly avoiding submission to God. Because they refuse to adopt the natural position of a servant, their realization remains permanently stunted. Contrasting these incomplete paths with true devotion, Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the paths of jñāna (knowledge) and yoga (mysticism) are not the ultimate means of liberation. It is only through the direct application of bhakti that the Supreme Soul can be perceived within the heart.
- Atmani, within his heart, he can see the Supreme Soul, Krsna, atmanam bhaktya. There is the real process, bhaktya: by means of devotional service, not by speculation or mystic power.
- In bhakti, one can immediately... because real process is to surrender to God. That is the real process. But these jnanis, yogis and karmis, they are not prepared to surrender to God.
- Jnana and yoga should not be accepted as the real processes for liberation. By discharging devotional service, Maharaja Prthu automatically transcended all these positions.
- The only factual process of self-realization or God realization is devotional service, and one who takes to this process takes to the real process of God realization.
Hearing and Chanting the Holy Name
In the current age of degradation, people lack the immense lifespan and sharp memory required to study vast volumes of ancient Sanskrit texts or perform severe asceticism. Therefore, the primary and most potent spiritual practice is simply receiving authorized sound vibrations. Presenting the core practice of the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, Śrīla Prabhupāda highlights that carefully hearing from a bona fide source and chanting the holy names is absolute perfection. Submissively drinking the nectar of transcendental literature purifies the existence.
- Krsna knowledge is so perfect. And if we take the real process, sravanam kirtanam visnoh smaranam pada-sevanam (SB 7.5.23), the devotional service... Because Krsna says, bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yas casmi tattvatah.
- Simple hearing (Srimad-Bhagavatam) is not all; one must realize the text with proper attention. The word nivista means that Suta Gosvami drank the juice of Bhagavatam through his ears. That is the real process of receiving Bhagavatam.
- Sruti means it is received through hearing. Real process is hearing. And this age, Kali-yuga, people cannot study so much.
- Our Krsna consciousness movement, we claim that we have got perfect knowledge of everything because we are taking knowledge from the perfect person - Krsna. Evam parampara-praptam imam rajarsayo viduh (BG 4.2). And that is the real process.
Controlling the Mind and Senses
True yoga is not achieved by performing spectacular physical feats or meditating on an empty void, but by actively subduing the material senses and directing them toward a spiritual target. Without controlling the restless mind, one remains thoroughly entangled in material affections. Demystifying the entire system of mysticism, Śrīla Prabhupāda asserts that the authentic goal of yoga is to focus the mind directly on the beautiful, transcendental form of Lord Viṣṇu. Utilizing time effectively for spiritual advancement is the essence of sense control.
- Meditation, dhyanavasthita-tad-gatena manasa, mind is absorbed in the Supreme Personality. That is the real process of yoga system and meditation - to see the form of Visnu.
- Real process is to concentrate the mind upon the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Dhyanavasthita-tad-gatena manasa pasyanti yam yoginah. The yogi's business is, by controlling the mind, focus it toward Krsna or Lord Visnu. That is real yoga system.
- The real process is to control the senses. So try to control the senses as far as possible and utilize your time for advancing Krsna consciousness.
- This Krsna consciousness is yoga system. At the present day, they are concentrating their mind on something void, impersonal, according to their own prescription. The real process is to concentrate the mind on something.
Surrender as the Ultimate Method
To unlock the mysteries of the Absolute Truth, one cannot hold onto ulterior motives or material attachments. The Lord reveals Himself proportionately to the degree of an individual's unconditional submission. Cutting through all sophisticated philosophical illusions, Śrīla Prabhupāda insists that the absolute prerequisite for spiritual success is unreserved surrender. By strictly following the regulative principles and chanting the holy names, the devotee proves their sincerity, and Kṛṣṇa responds with divine intelligence.
- If you actually follow all of the regulative principles and chant 16 rounds avoiding the offenses, and attend the mangala arati and classes, then Krishna will see that you are sincerely trying to follow the real process of Krishna Consciousness.
- Our process is how to please Him (God) so that He will be revealed to me. That is real process.
- Ye yatha mam prapadyante (BG 4.11). "As one surrenders unto Me, according to that." Real process is surrender. So if you surrender with some reservation, with some ulterior motive, then Krsna will give you proportionately intelligence.
- Ye yatha mam prapadyante tams tathaiva bhajamy aham (BG 4.11). The proportion, devotion, required. But real process is devotion.
Conclusion
While modern society is captivated by new age concoctions and impersonal meditations, the authentic path of self-realization remains singular and unbroken. Only by surrendering the heart, controlling the material senses, and engaging in hearing and chanting about Kṛṣṇa can one achieve the ultimate spiritual destination. As continuously championed by Śrīla Prabhupāda, stepping away from mental speculation and enthusiastically adopting the path of pure devotion is the real process for eternal life.
