The most confidential dimension of Kṛṣṇa's inner life is revealed in His own heart-felt contemplations as recorded in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta. Kṛṣṇa reflects that although He is the source of all beauty, fragrance, taste, sound, and bliss pervading the entire creation, He is wholly captivated and surpassed by the transcendental attributes of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. These contemplations disclose the supreme mystery of rasa: the Complete Whole, full in Himself, discovers in Rādhārāṇī alone the one power capable of giving Him pleasure and drawing Him beyond Himself.
Rādhārāṇī's Beauty and Attributes Surpass Even Kṛṣṇa's Own
Kṛṣṇa's innermost reflections begin with a confession that astonishes the philosophical mind. He who is the supreme source of all attractiveness finds Himself attracted, He who is the cause of all pleasure finds Himself pleased by another, and He who is complete in all opulences finds in Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī the one person in all of creation more qualified than Himself to give Him transcendental joy. Śrīla Prabhupāda presents these contemplations as the most intimate secrets of Vṛndāvana, accessible only through the grace of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "Although I am the source of happiness for the entire world, the beauty and attributes of Sri Radhika are My life and soul."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "Although My beauty defeats the beauty of ten million Cupids, although it is unequaled and unsurpassed, and although it gives pleasure to the three worlds, seeing Radharani gives pleasure to My eyes."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "One more qualified than Me is impossible to find in the world. But in Radha alone I feel the presence of one who can give Me pleasure."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "In this way My affectionate feelings for Srimati Radharani may be understood, but on analysis I find them contradictory."
The Transcendental Senses Enchanted by Rādhārāṇī
In a series of intimate reflections, Kṛṣṇa considers how each of His divine senses, though the origin of their respective objects throughout the creation, is conquered by Rādhārāṇī's corresponding transcendental quality. The scent of Her limbs overpowers His mind, the taste of Her lips charms Him, the sound of Her words surpasses even His own flute, and the sight of Her śyāma complexion causes Him to forget His own identity in happiness. Śrīla Prabhupāda presents this as evidence that Rādhārāṇī's mādhurya is the highest rasa in all of existence.
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "Although My body lends fragrance to the entire creation, the scent of Radharani's limbs captivates My mind and heart."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "Although the entire creation is full of different tastes because of Me, I am charmed by the nectarean taste of the lips of Srimati Radharani."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "The vibration of My transcendental flute attracts the three worlds, but My ears are enchanted by the sweet words of Srimati Radharani."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "Seeing the luster of Her (Radharani's) complexion after Our pastimes together, I forget My own identity in happiness."
Kṛṣṇa's Longing to Taste the Joy of Rādhārāṇī
The most philosophically profound of Kṛṣṇa's contemplations is His confession of an unfulfilled longing. He is always eager to taste the joy that Rādhārāṇī derives from His association, yet despite perceiving its sweetness and despite various efforts, He has not been able to taste it fully as Kṛṣṇa. This unsatisfied longing, far from being an imperfection, is understood by the ācāryas as the very impetus behind Kṛṣṇa's appearance in the form of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who came to taste that rasa from within Rādhārāṇī's own mood of devotion.
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "I am always eager to taste the joy that Radharani derives from Me."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "In spite of various efforts, I have not been able to taste it. But My desire to relish that pleasure increases as I smell its sweetness."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "Even with hundreds of mouths I could not express the transcendental pleasure She (Radharani) derives from My association."
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "Formerly I appeared in the world to taste mellows, and I tasted the mellows of pure love in various ways."
The Devotee's Heart and Kṛṣṇa's Heart
These confidential contemplations of the Supreme Lord do not belong to a realm entirely beyond the reach of the devotee. Śrīla Prabhupāda affirms the universal principle that underlies all of these intimate disclosures: the devotees of the Lord are always in the heart of the Lord, and the Lord is always in the hearts of His devotees. This sweet, reciprocal dwelling is the very ground from which the highest expressions of bhakti-rasa grow, and it is the same ground upon which Kṛṣṇa's own innermost longings are rooted.
- The devotees of the Lord (Krsna) are always in the heart of the Lord, and the Lord is always in the hearts of the devotees. That is the sweet relation between the Lord and His devotees.
- Once Lord Krsna considered within His heart, "I can understand that some unknown mellow in Me controls the entire existence of My captivator, Srimati Radharani."
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is greater than all, is attainable by unalloyed devotion. Although He is present in His abode, He is all-pervading, and everything is situated within Him.
Conclusion
Śrīla Prabhupāda's presentation of Kṛṣṇa's innermost contemplations opens a window into the most confidential dimension of Vedic theology. Here the Supreme Lord is not merely the object of devotion but a personality of infinite depth, whose own heart is filled with wonder, longing, and love directed toward Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. Her beauty surpasses His beauty, Her joy surpasses His capacity to taste, and Her love controls even the one who controls all of existence. Yet this is not a diminishment of Kṛṣṇa but the fullest expression of His completeness: He is so complete that He can be captivated, so full of ānanda that He can long for more, and so personal that He dwells in the hearts of His devotees just as they dwell eternally within His. This is the supreme secret of Vṛndāvana, and Śrīla Prabhupāda's gift to the world is having made it available to all sincere seekers.
